About this item

This painting is attributed to Deerfield, Massachusetts, artist Augustus Fuller (1812-1873).  His subject, Colonel Elihu Hoyt, was a leading citizen in town, having held town offices and served in the state legislature for twenty-seven years.  He was wealthy enough to afford the luxury of having his portrait painted.
