About this item

The maker of this “whole cloth” quilt used two large pieces of printed fabric imported from England. The first quilts were whole cloth, and were made beginning in the late 18th century. “Pieced quilts”, made from many small pieces of cloth were just beginning to be made at this time, now that New England had its own textile mills and could produce fabric more cheaply than in the past.
