About this item

The “Big Bridge” pictured here was finished in 1914. “Mohawk Trail” refers to the road seen on the right. Its official name is Massachusetts State Route 2, and it roughly parallels a Native American trading route, sections of which still exist. The Mohawk Trail became a major tourist attraction with scenic overlooks, and businesses and hotels catering to  tourism.
