About this item

On May 7, l945, World War II ended when Germany surrendered. In October, Frank Dahowski of Montague, Massachusetts, returned home on the ship SS George Washington. Due to his life-threatening war injury, he was discharged from the service as a disabled veteran, unable to work. Frank and his wife Olga moved to Deerfield, Massachusetts, where they built a house on a lot on the Dahowski farm. They were members and supporters of the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church in South Deerfield and Frank was a volunteer fireman who enjoyed his hobby of restoring and selling antique cars. Olga (“Ollie” to her friends) worked at Greenfield Tap and Die during the war and afterwards, at LaPierre’s Electrical Store in Greenfield. They are buried in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery in South Deerfield.
