The dam at Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, was built in the late 1800s and provided waterpower for the area’s textile mills. Other industries in the Chicopee area included cannon and shotgun manufacturing, iron and brass foundries, boot and shoe makers, and the first matches, known as “Lucifers” were produced there.
