About this item

Holyoke, Massachusetts, is nicknamed “The Paper City” for the 25 mills that once produced paper there.  It was also home to several textile mills.  At the time this postcard was produced, labor for the mills was provided in large part by immigrants from Quebec, Canada, Eastern Europe, Germany, and Scotland.
