About this item

Relying, as he said, on memories passed down to him from his father and other elders, Elihu Hoyt (1771-1833) made an effort to capture the drama of the early settlement of Deerfield, Massachusetts. He believed that the recounting of the town’s history would be a source of satisfaction to the descendants who would learn what “privations and sufferings their ancestors endured.”
