About this item

In this letter, John Emory Fuller tells his fiancé of the death of his commanding officer, Brigadier General Frederick Lander, who died of pneumonia in March of 1862, at Paw Paw, Virginia. Fuller was sick and still in the hospital when he wrote this letter. Although his doctor had issued him a furlough, he did not go to the sanitorium in Wellsville, Ohio.
