The Mill River flood of 1874 was caused by a dam failure in Williamsburg, Massachusetts. One hundred and thirty-nine people were killed, making it the most deadly dam failure in the U.S. at the time. This image of the demolished dam was used in several periodicals, including Harper’s Weekly.
