This census from Isaiah Thomas’s 1792 almanac reveals the number of enslaved people in the states and territories at that time. Massachusetts (of which Maine was still a part) listed no enslaved people. They would have been represented in the “All other free persons” column, along with Native Americans and anyone else who was not considered to be of European origin.
