The long handle on the frying pan allowed the cook to position him or herself at a distance from the hot fire. Both the pan and the handle were wrought, rather than cast, by a blacksmith. The end of the handle has been shaped in a ring for hanging. Major John Bolton of Colrain, Massachusetts, used the pan when he served in the Revolutionary War.
