These bobbins are for holding thread for making “bobbin lace” (also called “pillow lace” or “bone lace”). They belonged to Mrs. Anna McCartha (Williams) Howard. She was born in 1799, in Deerfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of Ebenezer Hinsdale Williams and Joannah (Smith).  Lacemaking was a hobby for Mrs. Howard.
