About this item

In 1863, during the Civil War, Mrs. Ruth Torrey of Naples, Maine, communicated common Northern sentiments- “Never Divide the Union.” However, although Mrs. Torrey supported the Union cause, she, like many other Northerners, continued to use cotton fabric produced by the labor of enslaved people.
