On September 19, 1677, Hatfield, Massachusetts, was attacked by Native Americans. They captured four-year-old Sarah Coleman and other residents and marched them to Canada. Most of the captives, including Sarah, were redeemed the following May. According to family tradition, Sarah wore this shoe home.
