This portrait of Polly Stebbins (1792-1869) was painted by an unidentified artist. Polly, along with her younger brother Rowland, was born deaf. Her father sent the two of them to school in Hartford, Connecticut, when The Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb opened in 1817.
