About this item

This dress was purchased in 1888, by Mrs. Joseph Wells Stevens of Greenfield, Massachusetts. She also purchased a matching bonnet. The dress still retains the label of the Boston shop where it was purchased. Dressmakers’ stitched labels began to appear in clothing about the middle to end of the 1800s.
