About this item

This basket was made by the Deerfield (Massachusetts) Basket Makers, part of the Deerfield Industries, who were active during the national Arts and Crafts Movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  The movement came about as a reaction to increased industrialization and encouraged a revival of handcrafts from earlier times.
