About this item

In 1923, Ellen Larson purchased this birchbark wastepaper basket at a stop on the Mohawk Trail in Western Massachusetts.  The trail was, and still is, a scenic route popular with tourists and locals out for a pretty drive in the country.  The basket was made by Northeast Woodland people for the tourist trade. Mrs. Larson was especially fond of it because it reminded her of the birch trees in her home country of Sweden.
