About this item

George Fisher built a new garage in the late winter of 1911, or early spring of 1912, and had this photograph taken for posterity soon before its completion. The interior walls and windows are weather-tight, and all that waits to be finished is the decorative brick exterior. Standing in front of it are four new 1912 Ford Model T Touring Editions, distinguishable from the 1911 model by their removable front doors and from the later, 1913, model (introduced in September, 1912) by the flap leading their front bumpers. George Fisher himself is probably sitting at the wheel of the car with the top down. Unpaved Sugarloaf Street near the center of South Deerfield, Massachusetts, shows the wear of the winter, since the mud is churned into little furrows. In 1912 few streets outside of the major cities were paved.
