About this item

This is a postcard of Seminary Farm in Northfield, Massachusetts.  It was part of the Northfield-Mount Hermon School. Evangelist Dwight Moody (1837-1899) founded the Northfield Seminary for Young Ladies in 1879, and the Mount Hermon School for boys in 1881.  Being from a poor family, Moody believed that no student should be turned away from the schools he founded simply because they could not afford the tuition. He strove to instill habits of hard work in his students and believed in combining a vigorous outdoor life with study. A student work program helped keep down the schools’ costs.
