About this item

Main Street in Amherst, Massachusetts, stretches east from the town center into neighboring Pelham. It is and was a thoroughfare carrying people and goods to and from work, school, shopping, and home. Along with the wagon teams, the trolley ran up Main Street, daily carrying people toward Sunderland. Noted poet Emily Dickinson lived along this road most of her life. The spire seen in the background is that of the Second Congregational Church.
