About this item

Colrain, Massachusetts, was settled by Scots-Irish immigrants in the mid-18th century, who named their settlement after Lord Coleraine of Northern Ireland. By the 1890s, the “e’s” had disappeared from general usage. This postcard spells the name in a third way, “Colerain”. The town is located on the Vermont border. Its center has remained almost completely unchanged over the last 150 years, and was declared a state historic district in 2006.
