About this item

Russell, Massachusetts, was originally part of Westfield. It was incorporated in 1792. The railroad came through in 1841, providing industries access to waterpower from the Westfield River, and bringing tourists. As a result of the location of three different paper mills, the town developed into three villages- Woronoco, Russell Village, and Crescent Mills. Hotels like this one provided lodging for tourists.
