About this item

This view of Avenue A, Turners Falls, Massachusetts’ main street, shows the block extending between 3rd and 2nd Streets, toward the Connecticut River. In 1938, the end of the street would become the beginning of the Turners Falls-Gill Bridge. Coming toward us instead is a trolley of the Connecticut Valley Street Railway, which was newly consolidated in 1905, the year of this photograph. The Turners Falls trolley line was first begun in 1895 as the Greenfield & Turners Falls Street Railway.
