About this item

Oftentimes, aerial, or “bird’s-eye” views such as this one of Greenfield, Massachusetts, were created to entice new businesses into town.  They show vacant areas ready for construction of  factories or worker housing, as well as amenities already established.  All are evident in this image. The town had some factories and mills with room for more, plus two railroad lines, seven churches, some banks, hotels and civic buildings.
