About this item

Clear drinking glasses with flat bottoms, called “tumblers,” were in common use throughout the United States starting in the late 18th century. They held a variety of beverages, including beer and hard cider. Attractive, inexpensive, and relatively sturdy, they were imported in large quantities from Great Britain, Bohemia, and Germany. American glassworks began producing glass tumblers by the early 1800s.
