About this item

The leatherette cover of this syringe case dates it to around 1900, and the plated metal parts of the syringe date it to the same period.  Earlier syringes had wooden components but by the late 1880s, hospitals began sterilizing their instruments, a process which the old wooden parts could not withstand.
