About this item

Will Hutchins’ lecture was the first in a series offered by the Arts and Crafts Society in Greenfield, Massachusetts. It took place during the Arts and Crafts Movement (1875-1920) when living in an increasingly industrialized world led to a greater appreciation of handmade items over those that were mass-produced. With home decoration in mind, Hutchins discussed framing pictures. The frame, it was felt, must harmonize with the painting, separating it from the world around it in the gentlest manner. It must also work with the interior design of the home.
