By 1885, when this booklet was written, Saratoga, New York, had been one of the country’s premiere resorts for more than sixty years. It was created around 1812, at mineral springs with water believed to be beneficial to health. By 1820, there were more than 1,500 available lodging rooms and by the 1850s, trains went directly from New York City to Saratoga. Over the years a casino and the Saratoga Raceway were also added.
