About this item

The Massachusetts General Court passed this act on February 6, 1787. It appropriates forty thousand pounds to be used to pay the militia who had been called up to suppress the insurgents of Shays’ Rebellion (August 1786- February 1787). It also empowers the treasurer of the Commonwealth to borrow the money.
