Anti-government Regulators during Shays’ Rebellion (August 1786-February 1787) in Massachusetts were still active in Northfield during April and May, 1787. Toward the end of May, word was received that the Regulators might raid the commissary and take prisoners of some of the inhabitants. Militias were called to arms and detached to various parts of town. Parties of armed men were found on both sides of the Connecticut River (Northfield is situated on both sides) but soon disbanded.
