About this item

In 1934, the Threadwell Tap & Die Company was formed and located on Arch Street in Greenfield, Massachusetts. The company developed and patented a method for metal thread cutting and for restoring damaged threads. This image was taken from a 1939 tool catalog distributed by the company. The catalog contains price lists of the various tools and parts the company sold prior to World War II. Threadwell reached its peak during that war and was the third largest employer in Greenfield with nearly 400 employees.
