About this item

In 1634, when John Stebbins (1626-1679) was eight years old, his family emigrated from England to Roxbury, Massachusetts. The following year they moved to Springfield, Massachusetts where, as an adult, John married Mary Munden and started a family.  After she died, leaving him with two children, John moved to Northampton, Massachusetts, and in 1657, married Abigail Bartlett.  They had 10 children who lived to adulthood.  John was one of the original proprietors of Deerfield, Massachusetts. Although he owned a house and land there, it is unclear whether he ever made it his home.
