Objective: Display images in Collection item image viewer | Public site (on ‘front end’)
Gather & prepare images | Prepare and name images as described in the Media documentation pages | This work is done outside of WordPress using an image editing application |
Add images to the Media Library (in WordPress admin) | Media Library Choose ‘Add New Media File’ beside the Media Library title. On the page that opens, drag image files, one at a time, to the box labelled ‘Drop Files to Upload’ and wait as they load.
Attach images to the collection item page
For each image, edit image metadata | Alternative Text sets the label that appears for this image in the row of thumbnails below the image viewer, e.g., ‘page 1’. Use all lower case. Caption & Description do nothing and may be blank. Viewer Order determines the order of the images in the viewer. If zero or blank this image will not appear in viewer at all. Images with integers 1… will appear in order from smallest to largest. This is often the page number but any numbers will do.
Save | Save your work with the red ‘Update’ button in the top right
Add transcriptions | If your images need transcriptions, see Add a transcription to a collection item image
Generate a new Manifest for this collection item. | You can repeat these steps to add all of the images for this collection item page. | Then, to make the images appear in the page’s image viewer, you must generate a new manifest for the collection item page. (See Generate a manifest.) |
