Topic Sets are curated collections of resources from throughout the American Centuries website (artifacts and documents, activities, lessons, exhibits, videos, etc) brought together in one easy-to-use menu. Topic Sets can be built around an event (for example “The Civil War”), a topic (for example “Eastern European Immigration”, or “19th Century Schoolbooks”), a person (for example “The work of the Allen Sisters”) or anything that might be of interest to website visitors. The difference between a Topic Set and a search based on a topic or person is that Topic Sets are contextualized on the menu page with an introductory statement about the set and the items in the set have been intentionally selected from across the site. A search is all-inclusive, while a Topic Set is custom selected by someone knowledgeable about the topic and very familiar with the resources available on the website.

Groups
the items in a Topic Set can be sub-divided into groups. Each group needs a title, can have a tagline and needs items selected for that group. To select items, click an item in the left-hand pane — this moves it over to the right-hand, selected pane. You can delete the item by clicking the minus icon to the right of its name. To make selecting items easier, you can search for the item by title or filter the items by taxonomy using the drop-down menu above the two-paned feature.
Metadata
add the typical metadata to the Topic Set: Topic, Era, Date (if applicable), Place (if applicable). Topic Sets do not have Related Items
