Samuel Field

Samuel Field graduated from Yale College in 1762, and studied theology in Deerfield, Massachusetts, under Rev. Jonathan Ashley (1712-1780). He then read law and was admitted to the Hampshire County bar. Field practiced law throughout his life, served as a delegate to the convention to ratify the United States Constitution, and served Deerfield as town clerk. As was common at the time, Field also did other work, farming in Deerfield and adjacent Conway, and engaging in trade in neighboring Greenfield.
