During the French and Indian War (1754-1763), Daniel Morgan was a teamster in the British Army. He received 500 lashes when he struck an officer. Morgan survived and nursed forever after an undying hatred for the British Army. During the American Revolution (1775-1783) some twenty years later, Morgan commanded an elite group of riflemen who would have used the type of bullet pouch shown here to carry the flints, cleaning cloths, bullets, and patches they required. Morgan and his riflemen played a key role in several American victories, most notably at Saratoga, New York, and Cowpens, South Carolina.
