Elizabeth Brooks Fuller (1896-1979) of Deerfield, Massachusetts, used her watercolors to depict a sulky plow (so called because of its similarity to a sulky- a 2-wheeled, horse-drawn cart) in one of the fields near her home at “The Bars” in the south end of town. Many farmers, such has her brother George, kept their horse-drawn plows long after the tractor was introduced. Not only were they able to do relatively delicate work, horses often were able to operate in fields where tractors could get bogged down.
