She was a photographer of note and a serious researcher who, with fellow historian Charlotte Alice Baker (1833-1909), made journeys to Canada to gather information about people taken captive in February of 1704 during a raid on Deerfield by French soldiers and their Native American allies. Colemen authored New England Captives Carried to Canada Between 1677 and 1760 During the French and Indian Wars.
