Cars from the 1920s line the common in the middle of Deerfield, Massachusetts for the first open house, held to raise money for the Cemetery Association. More than 5,000 visitors poured into town to inspect fifteen of the old houses and the 100-year-old brick meetinghouse. Three thousand, seven hundred dollars were raised to care for the graveyard and “to defray the expenses of building a wall on the west side of the new cemetery” [Laurel Hill].
