About this item

This postcard view shows a section of the Deerfield River that flows through Charlemont, Massachusetts. The area was once the homeland of the Pocumtuck people, but by 1751, English settlers began arriving and driving them out.  The river flows through rich farmland and while it was not used for power in the town’s early days, it now offers recreational opportunities.
