About this item

Taken the year before he died in 1884, this photograph of the artist George Fuller is by fellow artist J. Wells Champney (1843-1903). Mr. Champney was a painter, but was also intrigued with the relatively new craft of photography. This picture, taken in Mr. Fuller’s studio in “The Bars” section of Deerfield, Massachusetts, shows the subject holding his large palette as he looks toward a painting in progress fixed to an easel.
