About this item

This chest was intended for storage of textiles. Two drawers, which were at the bottom, were removed to create more space accessible from the hinged lid. The chest came to Deerfield, Massachusetts, in 1774, with Justin Hitchcock, a hatter, and was given to the town’s Memorial Hall Museum by his grandson.
