A knob on the side of each of these candleholders is set within a long slot. As the candle burned, the knob was moved to push the candle higher to reveal more wax. The flange at the top of the candlesticks caught the wax as it dripped. These candleholders were used by Reverend Roger Newton, who was Pastor of the First Church of Greenfield, Massachusetts, from 1765 to 1816.
