Basalt hoe or adzes

About this item

Among Northeast Woodland peoples, women and girls were the tenders of gardens. They would have used hoes to cultivate the “Three Sisters”- corn, beans, and squash.  As adzes, these tools would have been used by men for shaping wood, such as in making a dugout canoe.
