Stereoscopic photographs gave the illusion of three dimensions and were quite popular in the later 19th century. This photograph of Main Street in Greenfield, Massachusetts, was taken by Benjamin F. Popkins. Until 1892, he had a daguerreotype studio at the corner of Main and Federal Streets.
