Opened for business only a few hours each week at first, the Franklin Savings Institution was located on the second floor of a building on Bank Row in Greenfield, Massachusetts. It was incorporated on April 2, 1834, in the midst of a major depression. The bank thrived and when it outgrew its original space in 1911, it was moved to a new site on the corner of Main and Federal Streets in Greenfield.
