About this item

This photograph by Frances and Mary Allen shows textile processing equipment. Long before 1880, when Memorial Hall Museum opened in Deerfield Massachusetts, women and girls had stopped producing textiles at home. By then, mill-produced fabrics, yarns, and threads were cheap and readily available.
