About this item

Frances and Mary Allen of Deerfield, Massachusetts, specialized in taking romantic, often staged photographs that hearkened back to earlier times.  They posed the three Andrews children here watching a man and boys loading hay into a wagon for storage in a barn. Some farmers continued to rely on horses and oxen at this time, while others had switched to using tractors.
