About this item

Pageants were a popular manifestation of the Arts and Crafts movement. In 1910, 1913, and 1916, Deerfield, Massachusetts, hosted historical pageants described as having “embraced episodes from the history of the town from the purchase of the lands by John Pynchon of Springfield until after the war of the Revolution.” Seen here is a highly stereotyped version of a Native American, an image which today is considered offensive.
